Tom Engibous is chairman, president and
chief executive officer of Texas Instruments Incorporated
(TI), one of the world's leading electronics companies.
He joined the company in 1976, the same year he earned
a master's degree in electrical engineering from Purdue
University. His first assignment at TI was an integrated
circuit design engineer specializing in the development
of analog integrated circuits.
Prior to becoming president of the Semiconductor Group
in December 1993, Tom was manager of the Worldwide Applications-Specific
Products business, which included such products as digital
signal processors, microcontrollers, microprocessors,
and ASICs. Previously, he served as manager of the Worldwide
Linear Products business. He was appointed Semiconductor
Group vice president in 1985 and senior vice president
in 1991. In 1993, Tom was named an executive vice president
of the company and president of the Semiconductor Group,
where he turned in record profitability and growth.
In 1996, Tom was named president and CEO, and assumed
the additional responsibility and title of chairman
in April 1998.
Outside his TI duties, Tom participates in various
associations and activities. He is a member of The Business
Roundtable and an associate member of the Dallas Citizens
Council, as well as member of the Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Purdue University
Engineering Visiting Committee. Tom is also a member
of the Board of Trustees for Southern Methodist University,
a member of the Board of Directors for Catalyst, and
a member of the board of directors for JCPenney Corporation.
In addition to his master's degree, Tom also holds
a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Purdue,
and was awarded an honorary doctorate in engineering
from Purdue in May 1997. |
